Education and Work Experience:

  • Education: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Scope of Position: The Housing Assistant, under supervision of the House Manager, provides on-site monitoring and supervision of the facility, residents and their visitors, prepares and serves meals, prepares chore completion paperwork and checks for chore completion, performs intakes and exits for clients entering and exiting the program, provides access to the medication room and maintains the safety of the residents by enforcing rules and procedures and assisting the residents with daily needs during the operation hours of the shelter, washes house linens, as well as performing extensive cleaning and organization during the overnight operation hours of the shelter.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
    • Current CPR/ First Aid, both infant/child and adult.
    • Current Idaho State Food Handlers' License
    • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
    • Must be congenial and be able to work with difficult individuals.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
      • Observe and regulate activities at the facility in the evening and overnight, ensuring rules and procedures are followed. Assign consequences and warnings, as needed.
      • Develop good, professional working relationships with residents, helping to resolve conflicts.
      • Prepares and serves meals using proper food safety and storage practices.
      • Supervise housekeeping duties, so that residential and other areas are kept clean, and perform cleaning duties, as needed. Refer safety needs or concerns to the Housing Manager and Shelter Director.
      • Perform resident intakes and exits, completing all necessary paperwork and maintaining resident files.
      • Issue and receive linens.
      • Make any important notes in Bridges and email to the Housing Manager as needed.
      • Maintain an accurate facility log each shift and email to the Housing Manager.
      • Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
      • Ensure that the entire facility is clean and organized. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning the kitchen (microwave, stovetop, grill, sinks, counter, dishwasher, etc.) and washing any dishes, placing utensils, plates, cups, bowls and cooking pots and pans in the proper place. Put away and organize food in the pantry and break down boxes. Clean and organize the following rooms on the corresponding days: Mondays the kitchen refrigerators, Tuesdays the linen room, Wednesdays the Donation closet, Thursdays the food pantry, and Fridays the kitchen freezer. Once a month clean the ice machine and shower curtains. See specific instructions on extra duty checklist.
      • Wash facility laundry.
      • Answer phones, and make appropriate referrals.
      • Work in conjunction with the Housing Manager and Social Services Director to meet the needs of the clients.
      • Make perimeter checks as needed, locking outside doors when required.
      • Provide emergency backup to other staff in case of an emergency.
      • Follow Protecting The Mission policies.
      • Maintain a clean office and workspace.
      • Perform other duties, as determined by supervisor.
      • Ensure COVID-19 protocols are upheld.
      • Make lunches for all residents who are signed up for lunches, nightly.
        Physical Requirements:
        Sit, walk, reach, stand, bend, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
        Lift up to 30 lbs, lifting should be attempted safely using appropriate equipment.

        The Housing Assistant position is a grant-based position, and the position is dependent on the ongoing receipt of the grant.
