In a professional, competent and informed manner, chaplains affirm the giftedness of each person and explore sources of strength and hope. Chaplains understand the impact of illness and injury on spiritual well-being and seek to remind others that persons function optimally when there is integration of body, mind, and spirit.Skills, Knowledge, Education and Experience:Master's or Doctorate degree in Theology, Ministry, or related field required. Completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred; minimum of two units required.Prefer board certified by and in good standing with a national certifying agency (e.g., the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, the Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc. (an affiliate of the Association of Professional Chaplains) or the National Association of Jewish Chaplains) or able to obtain certification within two years of hire.Requires ecclesiastical endorsement from the applicant's faith community or ability to obtain within one year.Two years of experience in team-oriented health care setting preferred.Demonstrated ability to work well in high demand, high stress environment.Demonstrated ability to work well in a team setting.Must be available for call including some evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays.Roman Catholic religious or qualified lay person and/or experience in a Roman Catholic setting preferred.Essential Functions:Meets Health System's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonatal, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric as applicable).Initiates and participates in ethical decision-making discussions with knowledge of ethical concerns, concepts, and hospital policies.Initiates and/or participates in patient care conferences.Initiates, formulates and presides in liturgical forum both within and outside the hospital.Participates in the ongoing education of caregivers in the process of spiritual assessment.Actively encourages and participates in the growth and development of peers. Formulates and participates in education programs.
