experience. Must have EPIC experience. Must be able to read and
interpret telemetry. Must be willing to take students and may
precept new travelers. Description: Department: Medical Surgical.
Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:5, with occasional 1:6. The
unit has a total of 42 beds. Common diagnoses include total joints,
orthopedic conditions, hip fractures, spine surgeries, urology
procedures, general surgeries, and medical overflow cases. Required
certifications include Basic Life Support and EKG certification.
Experience with titratable drips is not required, but common drips
include heparin, PCAs, and morphine. There is a Charge Nurse on
each shift who rarely takes patients unless necessary. Aides and
patient care technicians are available on the unit. Respiratory
therapy equipment managed includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow.
Virtual telemetry technicians assist with monitoring, but RNs are
required to read and interpret their own strips. Shifts are
scheduled for 12 hours, starting at 7:00 PM. Weekend requirement
includes 5 weekend shifts within a 6-week period. Holiday
requirement is based on need. Floating is required between similar
units and departments as necessary. Dress code allows for any clean
and professional color scrubs. Unit-specific orientation includes
general orientation and training on the electronic medical record
system.
